Join us at the Margaret Chase Smith Library to celebrate the opening of an exhibition by Maine portrait artist Jerri Whitman.

Based in Dresden, Maine, Whitman is a longtime artist who works in oil, pastel, acrylic, colored pencil and graphite. Presently, Whitman is working to paint a portrait of every woman from Maine who has been elected to the Maine Legislature, the U.S. House of Representatives, and U.S. Senate. Whitman will be the Margaret Chase Smith Library's special guest at the event.

The Margaret Chase Smith Library is delighted to host an exhibition of the twenty-five currently completed portraits from this series and it will be on display from Monday, May 20th, until Wednesday, November 27th, 2024.

Twenty-five Maine female politicians will be honored in this exhibition: Representative Mana Abdi, Representative Amy Arata, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, Representative Kristen Cloutier, U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Senator Matthea Daughtry, Representative Deqa Dhalac, Senator Jill Duson, former Representative Eleanor Espling, Representative Ann Fredricks, former Speaker of the House Sara Gideon, Representative Abigail Griffin, Representative Amy Kuhn, Representative Raegan LaRochelle, Representative Laurel Libby, Governor Janet Mills, Senator Elizabeth Mitchell, former Representative Rena Newell, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, Senator Dora Pinkham, Speaker of the House Rachel Talbot Ross, U.S. Senator Margaret Chase Smith, U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe, Representative Maureen Terry, and Senator Eloise Vitelli.
